The Patriot Post® · Because of TSA, the Left Wants to Ban Plastic Guns

It appears Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) is out for a publicity stunt, a way to get in the headlines, perhaps generate a little more sympathy for his gun control bill. That’s the most he can hope for from this Republican-controlled congress. On Tuesday, Israel introduced “The Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act,” a bill that would ban the manufacture of plastic guns that do not have some chunk of metal integral to its operation. Originally introduced in 2013, the bill was designed to head off the 3D printed gun movement. This year, Israel’s excuse is that the TSA needs help after it didn’t detect 95% of the weapons that a Homeland Security sting sent through the TSA security lines. “If detectable weapons can make it through security checkpoints, how can we expect to catch wrongdoers carrying undetectable plastic firearms?” Israel said, “My legislation will close a dangerous loophole and require certain major components of guns are made of metal so they can be detected. It’s time to modernize our airport security so the American people can count on it again.” In short, the rights and industry of American citizens are sacrificed for the shortcomings of a government bureaucracy.
