Barack Obama could issue executive orders at will, but it takes funding to fuel the man’s plans. When he issued executive action on illegal immigration, throwing immigration enforcement in limbo and essentially granting amnesty to five million illegal immigrants, Obama needed funds. He had a brand spankin’ new immigration processing center in the DC Beltway that needed salary and lease money. The chief financial officer for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said the expenses would be paid for by the immigrants trying to enter the country legally, paying all the costs and fees, filling out the paperwork and conforming to the law. Each of the million or so legal immigrants each year pay thousands of dollars of fees, and USCIS said it could collect more than $1 billion each year. In other words, those who played by the rules would be subsidizing those who broke the law.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) moved to end the unfair system by introducing the Immigration Slush Fund Elimination Act, a bill that would curb Obama’s power by forbidding USCIS from using the fees collected from legal immigrants to help illegal ones. “America has always been a land of refuge and opportunity for those seeking freedom, and we should champion legal immigration,” Cruz said in a statement. “Ronald Reagan referred to legal immigrants, immigrants like my father, as Americans by choice. The federal government should not be in the business of looting the wallets of those who followed the law and came here legally to fund the President’s illegal and unconstitutional amnesty. This bill will cut off DHS’s credit card and put Congress back in charge of funding the agencies responsible for immigration.” More…
