The Patriot Post® · Satanists Unveil Statue Intended for OK State Capitol
The nine-foot, one-ton satanic statue that was intended to sit with the Ten Commandments at the Oklahoma State Capitol was unveiled in an industrial building in Detroit Saturday. The Satanic Temple unveiled the statue of Baphomet flanked by two children looking up at the goat-headed figure in Detroit because, as Detroit’s CBS station notes, the city has a “strong congregation” of 200 registered Satanists. Originally, it had tried to install the statue at the Oklahoma Capitol in 2012 because the government had a copy of the Ten Commandments on display. That plan fell faster than Lucifer’s rebellion, as the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that the Ten Commandment display was unconstitutional. Symbolism means something, and a display of a Baphomet statue in the halls of power would indicate a change of thinking. Sure, the Satanists say the statue is part of their fight “in the name of individual rights to free exercise against self-serving theocrats.” But depending on the interpretation of what it means, the Baphomet symbolizes a no-holds-barred hedonism. The man who organized the unveiling, Jex Blackmore, told Time Magazine, “Baphomet contains binary elements symbolizing a reconciliation of opposites, emblematic of the willingness to embrace, and even celebrate differences.” Christian symbols in government give nod to the foundational ideas of America: That individuals are given freedom to pursue a moral standard higher than the government, such as the Judeo-Christian God. A Baphomet statue at a government location would only celebrate man’s self-serving pursuit of pleasure.
