Speculation is mounting that Al Gore is considering another run for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. And while it’s tempting to laugh it off as unsubstantiated chatter, there is good reason to at least pause and consider the possibility. An anonymous Democrat official told BuzzFeed this week that Gore’s associates are “figuring out if there’s a path financially and politically,” adding, “It feels more real than it has in the past months.” Meanwhile, NBC News reported, “A high-level Democratic source has poured cold water on rumors that former presidential candidate Al Gore has been considering a second run for the White House.” But with Democrat frontrunner Hillary Clinton floundering and Bernie Sanders’ shot at winning the primary next to nil (famous last words), a perfect recipe may be brewing for the green guru to jump into the race. Later this fall, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) will be hosted in Paris, where policymakers will gather with the objective of finalizing a global climate accord. Meanwhile, in the Pacific Ocean, El Niño continues to strengthen, prompting NASA climatologist Bill Patzert this week to warn (quite sensationally), “This definitely has the potential of being the Godzilla El Niño.” Hyperbole aside, the phenomenon will raise global temperatures. The problem is, despite that warmth being a natural occurrence, it will bolster NOAA’s fraudulent claim that 2015 is on pace to be the world’s warmest on record, beating even 2014. The timing isn’t just advantageous, but impeccable. There will be a lot of talk in Paris about the need to act on climate. Who better to make that happen than environmental aficionado Al Gore?
