The Patriot Post® · County Clerk Jailed for Contempt, Hypocrisy Abounds
Lawyers from the hard-Left ACLU sought only a fine for Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis after her contempt-of-court charge following her refusal to issue any marriage licenses. The court disagreed. Judge David Bunning, a George W. Bush appointee, reportedly said a fine would not have been sufficient to force Davis’ compliance because sympathizers would raise money and undermine the punishment. Instead, Davis will be jailed until she complies and starts issuing marriage licenses. As an official of the secular state, Davis, a registered Democrat, has a duty to ensure the state fulfills its lawful obligations. But she told Fox News commentator Todd Starnes, “If I left, resigned or chose to retire, I would have no voice for God’s word.” There are other solutions to her ethical quandary than stopping all marriage licenses.
Among the vindictive and hypocritical statements from officials who should be following and not just espousing the virtues of Rule of Law, Barack Obama’s spokesman Josh Earnest opined, “[T]he success of our democracy depends on the Rule of Law. And there is no public official that is above the Rule of Law. Certainly not the president of the United States, but neither is the Rowan County clerk. That’s a principle that is enshrined in our Constitution.” Earnest is, of course, the mouthpiece of the most lawless president in U.S. history — a president whose actions and policies have so far been struck down more than 20 times by 9-0 Supreme Court decisions. And where was Earnest when, for example, Obama refused to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act?
Not to be left out, Hillary Clinton wrote, “Marriage equality is the law of the land. Officials should be held to their duty to uphold the law — end of story.” Aren’t there laws against mishandling classified information and obstructing justice? The hypocrisy of Obama and Clinton is astounding if completely predictable.
