The FBI’s report on the number of background checks it processes is out, and it once again breaks a record. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System processed 1,795,102 checks for firearm applications during September, the most applications for that month since the NICS went live in November 1998. Since May, a record number of Americans have purchased firearms, breaking the record for five months straight. Still, September hasn’t been the busiest month for the NICS. To date, that distinction still belongs to March, when the FBI processed 2,012,488 firearm applications. This comes at a time when Barack Obama and his gun-grabbing ilk are ratcheting up their rhetoric against firearms. “Their push for new restrictions on gun ownership is fueling gun sales,” Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, told the Washington Free Beacon. “If they really want less guns in private hands they should consider what happens every time they open their mouths.” Keep on yapping, Mr. President.
