This is why conservatives are well advised to follow Reagan’s 11th Commandment admonishing them to never speak ill of another conservative in order to remain united. Using a procedural process called a discharge petition, Rep. Stephen Fincher (whose campaign the Washington Examiner notes was funded almost entirely by lobbyists and corporate PACs) forced a vote for the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank. Congress defunded the bank in June, which was pork spending and cronyism institutionalized. To reauthorize the bank, the Tennessee Republican circumvented the House speaker and the House Financial Services Committee where the bill was being considered. Instead, Fincher went directly to the Democrats. “Signing a discharge petition puts the minority in charge and effectively makes Nancy Pelosi the speaker of the House,” said Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX). “At a time when our Republican conference is divided, this will divide it even further. Signing a discharge petition — regardless of the issue — gives the Democrats control over our agenda. That’s why they’re so eager to sign it.” Thanks to a Big Business-sponsored Republican, Democrats have found a method to advance their agenda, capitalizing on the discord among House Republicans as they bicker over who will lead them. The House will vote on the fate of the Ex-Im Bank late October, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who has been accused of running a weak and moderate upper chamber in the past, said he will not call up the authorization as a standalone bill, which may stop it.
