During Tuesday night’s Democrat debate, the candidates were asked, “Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, ‘I ask you to judge me by the enemies I have made.’ You’ve all made a few people upset over your political careers. Which enemy are you most proud of?”

Former Senator Jim Webb boldly declared, “I’d have to say the [Vietnamese] enemy soldier that threw the grenade that wounded me, but he’s not around right now to talk to.” That went over like a lead balloon with the audience. But his Navy Cross citation reads, “Webb simultaneously fired his weapon at the enemy, pushed the Marine away from the grenade, and shielded him from the explosion with his own body. Although sustaining painful fragmentation wounds from the explosion, he managed to throw a grenade into the aperture and completely destroy the remaining bunker.” Webb was also awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts for his service in Vietnam.

As for lounge chair warrior Hillary Clinton? “Well, in addition to the NRA, um, the health insurance companies, the drug companies, um, the Iranians, um, probably the Republicans.”

She certainly believes she’s been fighting a war against the “vast right-wing conspiracy,” but that hardly justifies such “enemies” talk about political rivals. Imagine if any Republican had said that at the debate. And it sure makes her look petty and small next to a real American hero like Webb.
