Oh sure, in a monopoly — like prison — the government can keep the food flowing, and, hey, you might even lose some weight. But when it comes to dishing out delicious and nutritious food, there’s nothing like home cooking, or Chick-fil-A. Just look at the number of students fleeing the federal government’s school lunch program. The Wall Street Journal reports the program saw, for yet another year, that 4.5% of the students turned up their noses and fled the program. See, the government has ideas, like regulating the consumption of pasta (need to file an exemption and it needs to be whole grain), and standards on how much sodium should be in the “food.” And if you think government knows best, remember that it walked back on it’s condemnation of the humble egg, and rethought its position on whole milk. It’s been a waste of food and money, the Journal notes, and so, like with much of the other government services, it’s best to brownbag it.
