It seems like a group of senators are beginning to learn just how significant the Iran nuclear deal is to national security. After Iran tested a missile that was most likely in violation of a UN Security Council resolution, the lawmakers, who are supposed to also help guide the nation’s foreign policy, grew concerned. Recently, “eleven senators, including nine who supported Obama’s nuclear deal, sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry protesting the Iranian missile launch and demanding to know what, if anything, the Obama administration plans to do about it,” Gary Bauer wrote. “I warned that the politicians who supported the terrible nuclear deal would become the ayatollah’s hostages. It seems a few senators may be having second thoughts. Too bad they didn’t think a little harder before now.” Meanwhile, Barack Obama is surging full steam ahead. Last week, the administration dodged the issue of the ballistic missile test by saying Iran didn’t violate anything in the new deal. If it’s a separate agreement, it’s a separate issue for Obama. That way, he could condemn the test without calling into question his most recent foreign policy quagmire. That’s the fruit of hashtag diplomacy for you. Obama will most likely ignore the letter. He didn’t need the Senate to create the agreement, so why does he need to listen to them now?
