The Patriot Post® · ATF Still Needs to Answer for Fast and Furious
Not even executive privilege can hide what the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms wrought when it ran the Fast and Furious gun-walking sting. The Obama administration claimed that it didn’t need to hand over documents to Congress detailing a sting that allowed thousands of guns to flow into the hands of Mexican cartels, bolstering their firepower and leading to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, among hundreds of other people. This week, an Obama-appointed federal judge rejected that argument, saying the Obama administration already disclosed publicly many key details about the operation, so Congress should be able to complete its investigation and see the documents. However, as Robert Farago from The Truth About Guns notes, the judge was sympathetic to the Obama administration, writing that she didn’t believe the administration was in the wrong. She also gave the administration a change to appeal the decision. Meanwhile, the ATF’s gun-walking is felt to this day, as a .50-caliber rifle that the ATF let flow to Mexico was discovered among the weapons when Mexican marines recaptured drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Not only is Obama the gun salesman of the decade, he’s one that bends the law to make a sale.
