The military has seen its fair share of changes under the Obama administration’s social engineering agenda. The effect has been that troop morale and military readiness are in a death spiral. But none of the policy changes so far is as radical or consequential as what top brass military leaders are contemplating next. Case in point: Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley and Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller told a congressional committee last week they support tearing down the barrier exempting women from enrolling in the draft.

The military draft, explains The Washington Post, “requires that virtually all men in the United States between the ages of 18 and 26 register, most within 30 days of turning 18.” However, as demonstrated during last week’s hearing, even military leadership is ready for an overhaul. And as Tony Perkins observes, it’s all a continuation down a slippery slope: “Sadly, this is just another consequence of the problem Obama created when he started using the military as a pack mule for his social agenda instead of its actual purpose: fighting and winning wars.”

So it’s really not all that surprising. What is surprising is the number of Republican presidential candidates supporting the idea. Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie all say women should be allowed to join the draft. Ted Cruz, meanwhile, seems to be the only candidate fervently rejecting it. “Political correctness is dangerous,” he said over the weekend. “And the idea that we would draft our daughters to forcibly bring them into the military and put them in close combat, I think, is wrong.”

Wrong it is. As pointed out by Perkins, “What kind of nation forces its sisters, daughters and granddaughters onto a battlefield against their will? That’s not progress. It’s the worst kind of cowardice. And what good is ‘equality’ if it’s only setting women up for disaster and failure?” Numerous studies conclude that most women in military simply can’t match the physical demands required of men, which in turn affects combat operations. That’s not bigoted, it’s a biological fact. Just as it’s a fact that women outperform men in areas outside of war — a concept that applies to many areas of life. There are many ways to lose a war. Let’s not usher in calamity with a fight over diversity.
