Thanks to a British sniper, an Islamic State beheading lesson went horribly wrong. Since November, British Special Forces, SAS, have been operating in Syria, boots on the ground, you might say. Recently, a SAS sniper snuck into an Islamic State compound with the help of 12 other soldiers. About 1,000 meters out, the group observed a member of the Islamic State waving around a knife, giving a lesson to 20 recruits on how to behead captives. It took one shot from the sniper’s .338 rifle to change the day’s lesson plan. A SAS official familiar with the mission said, “One minute he was standing there and the next his head had exploded. The commander remained standing upright for a couple of seconds before collapsing and that’s when panic set in. We later heard most of the recruits deserted. We got rid of 21 terrorists with one bullet.” Any second, death may come screaming out of the sky, or perhaps it’s stalking over that hill in the distance: It’s a lesson those 20 former Islamic State fighters shouldn’t soon forget.
