Christopher Marquez, a decorated veteran of the Iraq war, was assaulted and robbed while eating at a McDonald’s restaurant in the District of Columbia, a crime he says was motivated by hate. The former sergeant earned a Bronze Star with “V” for helping to carry a wounded comrade from some of the bloodiest fighting in the Second Battle for Fallujah, a moment that was cast into bronze and stands as a statue called “No Man Left Behind” at Fort Pendleton. While Marquez was eating, a group of teenagers surrounded him, asked him if he thought black lives mattered, and accused him of being a racist. Surveillance video shows that when Marquez stepped outside, he was struck in the head and fell to the ground. The teens took the veteran’s wallet, identification card, $400 cash, debt cards and credit cards. They later made $115 in purchases at a Walmart, liquor store and Five Guys restaurant. Marquez told The Daily Caller, which originally reported the story, “I believe this was a hate crime and I was targeted because of my skin color. Too many of these types of attacks have been happening against white people by members of the black community and the majority of the main stream media refuses to report on it.” Question is, will the District of Columbia’s notoriously liberal government investigate this as a hate crime?
