Obama Wages an Inefficient War

Obama refuses to put the resolve into his Operation Inherent Resolve.

By the way The Heritage Foundation’s Steven Bucci describes it, Barack Obama is using U.S. Special Forces as his personal hit squad against the Islamic State instead of effectively using them to squash the group. Sure, the U.S. boots have captured key Islamic State sources to gather critical information. They’ve directed airstrikes, and heck, British Special Forces sent a sniper to disrupt a jihadist training camp. But as Bucci, a former Special Forces officer with 30 years of experience, opines, Obama refuses to put the resolve into his Operation Inherent Resolve because he doesn’t back the tip of the spear with the brunt of America’s air force.

> The administration has ramped up the use of Special Operations Forces, but they have neglected to adjust another critical aspect of the approach Heritage’s analysts have recommended.

> This is the utilization of a much more robust air campaign to go with the elite forces on the ground. Special Operations Forces are able to be force multipliers — low numbers in the fight, but big results — because they can provide targets to aircraft, advise on the correct mix of munitions, guide the ordinance to the specific targets, and provide accurate bomb damage assessment.

As a result, the Islamic State has learned to adapt. It’s resisting Obama’s efforts to “degrade and ultimately destroy.” Meanwhile, Navy SEALs claim there are not enough rifles for each SEAL to have his own personal weapon. Clearly, the United States will need to throw political correctness aside and ramp up the fight against the Islamic State if it ever hopes to contain the group.
