The Patriot Post® · Israel's Biggest Security Threat Isn't the Islamic State
Barack Obama has his priorities misaligned in Syria. While his administration talks a big game about labeling the Islamic State guilty of genocide and developing a broad coalition to destroy the group, Israel — which has to live with its enemies over the next mountain — worries more about Iran’s influence over the region. Michael Oren, a former ambassador to the United States, said, “If we have to choose between ISIS and Assad, we’ll take ISIS. ISIS has flatbed trucks and machine guns. Assad represents the strategic arch from Tehran to Beirut, 130,000 rockets in the hands of Hezbollah, and the Iranian nuclear program.”
We know of the Obama administration’s priorities in the region: It cut a generous deal with Iran, handing the state sponsor of terror $150 billion, and stood back and let Russia enter Syria under the pretense that the Great Bear would take on the Islamic State. Instead, Russia finished its mission of propping up the Assad regime and, in turn, bolstering Iran’s power in the Middle East. As a result, the Obama administration has imperiled America’s best ally in the region.
