The alarmism over climate change has struck full throttle as we count down the last remaining days of the Obama administration. On Monday the White House website published a “fact sheet” previewing a new study — “The Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health in the United States: A Scientific Assessment” — that was compiled by “approximately one hundred experts in climate-change science and public health.” Here are seven concerns as highlighted by the White House:

  1. Air pollution and airborne allergens will likely increase, worsening allergy and asthma conditions.

  2. Extreme heat can be expected to cause an increase in the number of premature deaths.

  3. Warmer winter and spring temperatures are projected to lead to earlier annual onset of Lyme disease cases in the eastern United States.

  4. Increase the risks of water-related illnesses.

  5. Climate change, including rising temperatures and changes in weather extremes, is expected to increase the exposure of food to certain pathogens and toxins.

  6. Climate change will have the largest health impact on vulnerable populations.

  7. Extreme weather and other events related to climate change will impact health.

The text accompanying the second point — “Extreme heat can be expected to cause an increase in the number of premature deaths” — is downright laughable. It claims, “One model projected an increase … of more than an additional 11,000 deaths during the summer in 2030 and more than an additional 27,000 deaths during the summer in 2100.” Would that be the same model that predicted an ice-free Arctic? (“Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013.” —John Kerry, 2009) Or any of the other computer models that overestimated the amount of global warming? At least we have them on record spewing this crap. And come 2030 — when an additional 11,000 won’t have died from extreme heat — we’ll remind them.
