With Iran vying for control of the Middle East, American foreign policy has naturally drifted toward a closer relationship with Saudi Arabia. But that might change. The Senate approved a bill that would allow families and victims of the 9/11 terror attack to sue the country for its hand in the terrorist attacks. Enough senators, 67, approved the measure to override a possible Barack Obama veto. The bill now heads to the House, where The Hill reports representatives will wait until a 28-page document is declassified which details Saudi Arabia’s involvement with the 9/11 attacks.

“Look, if the Saudis did not participate in this terrorism, they have nothing to fear about going to court. If they did, they should be held accountable,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who co-sponsored the bill with Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX). But Saudi Arabia certainly isn’t acting innocent. As we noted recently, the government is threatening to jettison the $750 billion it holds in U.S. bonds if the measure is made law. The sooner that 28-page report is made public and America learns what its “allies” are up to, the better.
