The Patriot Post® · U.S. Troops Headed for Libya?
The United States is poised to involve itself in a greater capacity in the fragmented and infighting state of Libya, just as soon as NATO and the fledgling Libyan government comes to a consensus. According to Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, Barack Obama’s chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, “There’s a lot of activity going on underneath the surface. We’re just not ready to deploy capabilities yet because there hasn’t been an agreement. And frankly, any day that could happen.” The general added once the boots of American military advisers hit the ground, it would be a long-term mission.
American Special Ops have been in the country since late 2015. They’ve been organizing the fighting groups, seeing which ones would be suitable for the United States to partner with to take on the Islamic State. On Monday, the U.S. said it is willing to provide arms and humanitarian assistance to the Libyan government. It’s just the next step in Obama’s failed foreign policy in that country. It began in 2011, when an adviser to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pushed her to topple the dictatorship of Moammar Gadhafi so that Obama appeared strong ahead of the 2012 election. We know what happened next: Four Americans were killed when jihadists attacked the Benghazi consulate, the country was destabilized, and it has become a breeding ground for the Islamic State.
