The Left has found yet another way to push its agenda: through toys marketed to children, and the White House is encouraging it. “There are dolls on sale for boys,” the Wall Street Journal reported. “The White House Council on Women and Girls in April hosted a conference about how toys are the early shapers of children’s ideas about jobs and their roles in society. It invited companies to showcase how they are revamping toy brands to appeal to both boys and girls. Mattel Inc., for instance, is working on selling superhero action figures to more girls.”

Think we’re talking about G.I. Joes here? A mother developed a baby doll dressed up in a red superhero suit in order to foster a nurturing nature in her son. If a boy wants to pick up sewing or a girl has a fascination with shooting squirrels with a bb gun, that’s fine. And if a girl finds a passion for science through a science kit, great! Humans are a diverse bunch. But the problem comes with this top-down social agenda that’s blurring distinctions between the sexes — it’s getting younger and younger all the time — and pushing generally leftist propaganda. (Do plastic soldiers have to adhere to rules of engagement yet?)

We the armchair psychologists remember hearing somewhere that play is a way for a child to practice being an adult, to mimic and work through what they see in the adult world. When a girl bursts into tears because the Darth Vader costume is marked as a boys costume, what does it say about our culture when the toy company removes gender markings from its products? They’re conforming society’s reality to a child’s because the Left’s version of society is so “tolerant” there are no morals.

Furthermore, kids will already assign “stereotypical” gender roles in play. Little boys will chew their sandwiches into the shapes of guns. Girls gravitate toward dolls. And what the kid wants to be when they grow up is rarely what they become. For example, pop star Taylor Swift wanted to be a stock broker when she was 5. Still, the Left thinks they’ll pressure kids on how to play.

For what it’s worth, the best selling toy of all time is a Rubik’s Cube — a toy with no agenda, only presenting a multi-colored puzzle for young and old.
