The GOP’s Case for Clinton’s Perjury

Two Republicans lay it out for the Justice Department.

The Clintons never can quite shake charges of perjury. “A pair of leading House Republicans on Monday laid out detailed instructions for the Justice Department to file perjury charges against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton,” reports The Hill. Specifically, Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) allege that Clinton told four lies while under oath before Congress, each disproven by FBI Director James Comey’s statement announcing no charges. The four lies: That she did not send email marked classified; that her lawyers had assessed her emails individually; that all work-related emails were turned over to the State Department; and that she used a single private. “The four pieces of sworn testimony by Secretary Clinton described herein are incompatible with the FBI’s findings,” the pair of Republican lawmakers wrote to the Justice Department. “We hope this information is helpful to your office’s consideration of our referral.”

Meanwhile, the FBI just released its notes from Clinton’s interview to Congress, and that may shed further light on the subject. Clinton’s campaign has already chosen its defense line — that Republicans will “mischaracterize [the notes] through selective, partisan leaks.”

We think it’s painfully obvious that someone as cool and calculated as Hillary Clinton knew exactly what she was telling Congress. That doesn’t mean it will be easy to prove from a legal standpoint, or that anything more will be done to hold her accountable than has already been done. Which is to say, nothing.
