The Patriot Post® · 'Show Me' Constitutional Carry
“Show Me” State residents will no longer have to show anyone a concealed carry permit. Missouri legislators overrode Democrat Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto to make the state the eleventh in the country to recognize what has become known as constitutional carry. The Washington Times notes, “Gun owners previously were required to take an eight-hour course on gun safety and marksmanship and pass a background check in order to obtain a concealed carry permit. The new provision, which will take effect in January, does away with those requirements.” Another measure Republicans pushed established a public “stand your ground” right.
Nixon explained his veto, saying the bill “flouts this [permit] system, allowing individuals with no training, no proven handgun capability, and no background check to carry concealed” weapons. Leftists hysterically sound the alarm about Wild West-style shootouts when gun rights are expanded for law-abiding citizens, but where is the evidence that Nixon’s apocalyptic warning will come to pass? Legal gun buyers still must pass a background check. And in any case, the real “gun problem” doesn’t have much to do with guns, but rather with culture on Democrat-run urban poverty plantations. Is Chicago safe because neighboring Illinois has the one of most restrictive permitting systems in the country? Hardly.
