A few weeks ago, North Carolina Republican Gov. Pat McCrory acknowledged defeat in his re-election bid. McCrory, you’ll recall, was assailed by the Rainbow Mafia for signing HB2 — a law that proscribes the gender confused (and predators) from obtaining admitting privileges to any restroom or facility of their choosing. The move resulted in fierce economic pushback. Now comes a surprising twist: In exchange for Charlotte eliminating the ordinance that engendered HB2, the state legislature will repeal said law.

According to the Charlotte Observer, “Following a surprise move by Charlotte City Council on Monday, Republican Gov. Pat McCrory has called for a special session Wednesday to consider repeal of House Bill 2. … McCrory’s call came hours after Charlotte City Council voted 10-0, with the support of Cooper and Democratic Mayor Jennifer Roberts, to rescind the LGBT ordinance that prompted HB2.”

McCrory has zero doubt as to what’s behind the Democrats’ about-face. “This sudden reversal, with little notice after the gubernatorial election has ended, sadly proves this entire issue, originated by the political left, was all about politics at the expense of Charlotte and the entire state of North Carolina,” he contends. Senate Leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore agree: “Roy Cooper and Jennifer Roberts proved what we said was the case all along: their efforts to force men into women’s bathrooms and shower facilities was a political stunt to drive out-of-state money into the governor’s race. For months, we’ve said if Charlotte would repeal its bathroom ordinance that created the problem, we would take up the repeal of HB2.”

And it’s nearly impossible to argue otherwise. From the Observer: “This is the third time such an offer has been floated. First in May and then in September there were efforts to get the council to rescind the ordinance.” Those arguing there’s nothing nefarious about the timing probably believe too that Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton was coincidental and was not related in any way to Hillary’s email investigation. Fat chance.

Ironically, that meeting hurt Clinton’s campaign. And there’s a possibility the Democrats overplayed their card in North Carolina too. On the issue of bathroom access, Hot Air notes, “[T]his can not and should not be the end of the debate. There are a number of other cases making their way through the court system and the Supremes are on track to weigh in on it in 2017. (Hopefully with a fresh, new Donald Trump appointee on the court.)” Let’s hope, like Hillary, the Rainbow Mafia doesn’t get away with this politically motivated ruse either.
