One of the most popular criticisms thrown out by Democrats and the Leftmedia against Donald Trump’s executive order enacting a temporary travel moratorium on seven countries is the claim that it is a Muslim ban and therefore un-American. Never mind what the actual text of the executive order states, and never mind the fact that religion is indeed an important factor U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services considers when seeking to determine the eligibility of an individual for legitimate refugee status.

The Democrats and the Leftmedia deliberately continue to misrepresent the EO, even after being corrected. The truth be damned; it’s the popular narrative that matters. Misinformation coupled with misrepresentations — or as they like to say, “fake news” — is fed to the American public endlessly.

Not only is Trump’s EO considered to be “un-American,” it’s said to be immoral. How is seeking to protect the citizens of one’s own country against a real enemy threat immoral? Immoral by what standard? Certainly not by constitutional standards. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) asserts, “President Trump’s executive order targeting and banning legal permanent residents and refugees from war-torn areas is illegal, immoral and un-American. It made us less safe. If the president wants to empower jihadists, this is the way to do it.” And there it is — blame the victim for the crimes of the terrorist. The high morality of the Left.

As so often is the case with Democrats and the Leftmedia, simply making the claim is evidence enough. Concerns over honesty and factual and contextual integrity don’t seem to fit within the Left’s concept of morality.

Part of what has made the political divide so pronounced in our nation is the inability to even agree on what constitutes our shared American moral values. If every decision is ultimately considered a moral one, then logically if one side disagrees with the other they literally view the other as immoral, not merely wrong or misguided. When the polarization becomes that pronounced, people become enemies rather than countrymen.

What the Leftmedia and many Democrats are doing by insinuating that Trump and his policies are evil and motivated by hatred is to effectively alienate half the nation. The Leftmedia especially is responsible for spreading this poison. Gone is any semblance of objectivity; it has now become their mission to promote resistance to Trump and undermine his presidency at every opportunity they find. There is no good will, no willingness to offer understanding or grace. It has become a 24/7 onslaught of negativity, mockery and disrespect. Trump may not have earned respect in the Leftmedia’s eyes, but the nation, the American people and the office he holds deserve it.
