Last week, Republicans utilized the Congressional Review Act to proceed with nullifying another of Barack Obama’s dubious gun grabs. For all the rancor Democrats make about discrimination, they’re completely indifferent to the fact this law unconstitutionally singled out a group of Americans by revoking their right to bear arms without sufficient reasoning.

The law essentially stripped due process from some Social Security recipients who were deemed mentally unfit. But it’s the way said recipients were considered ineligible to own a gun that is highly spurious and raises serious constitutional concerns. Basically, if you receive checks via Social Security but need outside help with financial responsibilities, your name — without any additional information or circumstantial understanding — was registered with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. The result is that you are proscribed from obtaining a firearm.

Rep. Sam Johnson said, “This is wrong. Social Security has no business stripping people of their constitutional rights.” Rep. Pete Sessions agreed, stating, “There are people who need help and seek help, but that is not a criteria for taking away one’s constitutional right.” Still, the Leftmedia went haywire, writing headlines like “House votes to roll back Obama rule on background checks for gun ownership” and “House strikes down Obama-era regulation that blocked gun sales to mentally ill.” This amounts to fake news, argues Charles Cooke:

“The House did indeed reverse an Obama-era rule … but that rule was neither ‘gun-buyers must obtain background checks’ nor ‘the mentally ill are barred from buying guns,’ and the measure was by no means an NRA initiative. The NRA was supportive, of course — that’s why it exists. But so was the American Civil Liberties Union. So were a host of disability groups. So was much of the medical community.” He continues, “It is a rare day indeed on which the NRA, the GOP, the ACLU, and America’s mental health groups find themselves in agreement on a question of public policy, but when it happens it should at the very least prompt Americans to ask, ‘Why?’ That so many mainstream outlets tried to cheat them of the opportunity does not bode well for the future.” The Left’s definition of discrimination depends entirely on the subject matter.
