A trio of thugs tried looting the wrong home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, this week, and none of them survived to reflect on the rash decision. The three black-clad perpetrators — whom Wagoner County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Mahoney says “came to this residence with the intent to burglarize it” — were downed and ultimately killed when one of the home’s occupants wielded his AR-15. A female getaway driver was later apprehended, too. “Preliminary investigation, it looks like it was self-defense,” according to Mahoney.

This so-called “weapon of war,” by the way, was highly effective in ending what could have turned into a much worse situation. For the record, here are some remarks from incredulous Democrat officials who claim AR-15s are overhyped and unnecessary:

Sen. Dianne Feinstein: “There are many weapons, 2,000-plus weapons, that are available to people for choice without an assault weapon.” The AR-15 is not an “assault weapon,” and in fact it operates just like these other 2,000-plus weapons Feinstein cites.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen: “Somebody who is buying that kind of a weapon isn’t buying it for target shooting. They’re not buying it to go out and hunt deer. You don’t need an AK-47 or an AR-15 to hunt deer. They’re buying it to do bad things and we need to recognize that and address it.” Yes, the victim clearly intended to carry out something nefarious — like protecting his life and property.

And who can forget Joe “Shotgun” Biden’s infamous recommendation?

“If you want to protect yourself, get a double barreled shotgun … I promise you, as I told my wife — we live in an area that’s wooded and somewhat secluded. I said, Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put [up] that double barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house. … You don’t need an AR-15. It’s harder to aim. It’s harder to use. And, in fact, you don’t need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun!”

In truth, the AR-15 is an amazingly simple firearm to operate, and in some cases it is the superior choice for self-defense. A double barreled shotgun, for example, probably would not have stopped all three thugs. And where there’s three burglars, there can easily be six. This “you don’t need 30 rounds” mantra Democrats have resorted to is complete nonsense. And it’s exactly what evildoers want people to think.
