The Patriot Post® · A College Falls for Another Hate Crime Hoax

St. Olaf College is in the news again. Recall how troubled the student body became after the election of Donald Trump. And how the school’s administration went out of its way to provide a candlelight vigil for “The Death of America,” puppy petting clinics, coloring books, free counseling sessions and Play-Doh for its snowflake students. It was also learned that conservative students were living with threats of violence and death. Sounds like a “safe” and “inclusive” environment, no?

Well, recently St. Olaf was again “rocked” by an apparent spate of racist notes coming from an unknown source or sources. It culminated on April 29 with the discovery of a typewritten note placed on the windshield of a black student’s car. The note read:

> I am so glad that you are leaving soon. One less n—r that this school has to deal with. You have spoken up too much. You will change nothing. Shut up or I will shut you up.

The student quickly posted a picture of the note on social media saying, “I knew I had to share it because it was another incident; it’s the third incident this week.” As news of the incident got around campus a growing mob of angry students took over the student commons and demanded that the administration capitulate to their list of demands. The protesters put up hand-written signs such as “I’m sick of white tears” and “F—k your white complacency.” Remember, this is a Lutheran school.

And after shutting down all classes for a day, the school administrators conceded to the students’ demands. Another win for generation snowflake.

Trouble is, like so many instances before it, that original “racist” note has turned out to be a hoax. On Wednesday, St. Olaf President David Anderson sent out an email stating, “We’ve confirmed that this was not a genuine threat. We’re confident that there is no ongoing threat from this incident to individuals or the community as a whole.” He went on to say that the author had confessed that it was “fabricated.”

But in typical leftist fashion, when several students were questioned about the fact that the whole incident was a hoax, the responses could be basically boiled down to, “who cares if it wasn’t true, because it started something good.” This seems to be a common refrain of those whose ideology trumps the truth. And it leads to larger, far more troubling question: Just what are we teaching our children at these schools?
