The Patriot Post® · Trump Fulfills Promise to Investigate Voter Fraud

On Thursday Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the “Presidential Commission on Election Integrity,” fulfilling his post-election promise to investigate voter fraud. This bipartisan team will be headed by Vice President Mike Pence and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is a Republican, and will consist of a total of 15 members. The complete list of members has yet to be finalized.

The commission will be charged with investigating allegations of widespread voter fraud as well as voter suppression, which tends to be the primary concern expressed by Democrats when it comes to questions over election integrity. (They claim voter ID laws result in voter suppression.) The commission will have until 2018 to “review policies and practices that enhance or undermine the American people’s confidence in the integrity of Federal elections.” These policies and practices to be investigated include, “improper registrations, improper voting, fraudulent registrations, fraudulent voting and voter suppression.”

While some Democrats are viewing Trump’s effort as an “absurd” attempt to pivot attention away from James Comey’s firing, the reality is that it is entirely consistent with Trump’s previous statements in his desire to investigate voter fraud. Logan Churchwell, a spokesman for the Public Interest Legal Foundation, states, “This order is a step in the right direction in response to widespread concern about failures in our election systems that can lead to fraud and other irregularities. The issues of faulty voter registration procedures and record maintenance are ripe for review. Perennial questions surrounding the actual scope of ineligible voters and their rates of participation can only be answered when federal offices share information.”

It’s a good bet this commission will turn up some interesting findings on the state of the nation’s voter integrity.
