How do you know leftists are science deniers? When you can’t even separate male and female tennis players. Retired tennis great John McEnroe stirred up the politically correct hornets’ nest when he called Serena Williams the “best female player ever.” McEnroe’s not exactly known for keeping a cool head, but the outrage over his compliment is ridiculous. NPR reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro went out of her way to foment it right away, though, insisting, “Some wouldn’t qualify it [by saying ‘female’]. Some would say she’s the best player in the world. Why qualify it?”

“Well,” replied McEnroe, “because … if she played the men’s circuit she’d be [ranked] like 700 in the world.” To his obvious exaggeration he added, “That doesn’t mean I don’t think Serena is an incredible player.” And she is — historically great, which he acknowledged.

Chased down by other journalists, McEnroe refused to apologize. “Would you like to apologize?” Asked CBS’s Norah O'Donnell. “No,” replied McEnroe. And why should he? Acknowledging that there are differences between the sexes is as old as humans themselves. And if leftists insist that they are the guardians of Science™, they better start believing in science. After all, why are there separate men’s and women’s tennis circuits if there’s no difference? Indeed, McEnroe concluded, “Why don’t you combine, just solve the problem — I’m sure the men would be all for this — the men and women play together and then we don’t have to guess.” Expect the response to be nothing but the sound of crickets.
