Abortion Truth-Telling Doesn't Pass Twitter's Litmus Test
Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn was censored on social media for her pro-life views.
Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn declared last week she’s in the running for Bob Corker’s Senate seat. Blackburn, like all political candidates, utilized Twitter’s paid ad feature to promote her campaign. But Twitter’s notorious PC police were insulted by Blackburn’s truth-telling when it comes to abortion and the despicable side business it engenders. As such, the social media platform censored the pro-life ad citing mind-numbing justification.
According to the Associated Press, “Blackburn … boasts in the ad that she ‘stopped the sale of baby body parts.’ A Twitter representative told the candidate’s vendors on Monday that the statement was ‘deemed an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction.’ Twitter said the Blackburn campaign would be allowed to run the rest of the video if the flagged statement is omitted.”
This statement might be incendiary for liberal malcontents. But it’s also a fact. Heck, it’s not even subjective. It’s just, in a strange sense, inconvenient. Ironically, leftists don’t want to admit that Planned Parenthood trafficked baby body parts. They can’t stand listening to how horrible their own actions are. If it evokes such “strong negative reaction,” why do leftists simultaneously defend Planned Parenthood’s atrocious covert behavior? Because they refuse to accept any wrongdoing.
The fact is that millions of Americans consider Democrats’ pro-abortion views — which are often broadcast using harsh rhetoric — to be “an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction.” But because these views are “mainstream,” and because leftists practice moral relativism, free speech is a one-way street. The bottom line is that Twitter — along with all social media platforms — is anti-conservative.
Update: Following backlash, Twitter is no longer censoring the ad. It has since announced that Blackburn’s entire video will be permitted as a paid ad. According to Blackburn, “I think what has happened, the American people rose up. They are sick and tired of the liberal elites and the liberal media telling them what they’re going to listen to, and what is going to be pushed forward and broadcast and what is not, and in this example it was Twitter.”
