Apple’s vice president of diversity and inclusion, Denise Young Smith, is stepping down after only six months on the job. What prompted Smith’s resignation? Evidently, Smith, who is a black woman, failed to uphold the leftist dogma on what constitutes “diversity.” Last month at a One Young World Summit in Bogota, Colombia, Smith said, “There can be 12 white, blue-eyed, blond men in a room and they’re going to be diverse too because they’re going to bring a different life experience and life perspective to the conversation.” Smith continued, “I get a little bit frustrated when diversity or the term diversity is tagged to the people of color, or the women or the LGBT.”

She really stepped in it there!

Smith’s remarks didn’t sit well with Apple’s overwhelmingly white male leadership. Apple, along with other big tech companies like Google, are striving to sport their commitment to “diversity and inclusiveness” and non-whiteness. Smith later apologized for telling the truth, saying that her statements “were not representative of how I think about diversity or how Apple sees it. For that, I’m sorry. More importantly, I want to assure you Apple’s view and our dedication to diversity has not changed.”

After Smith, who has worked with Apple for 20 years, stepped down, Apple execs hired Christie Smith to take over as VP of diversity and inclusion. Ironically, the other Smith is white. Clearly the former Smith’s views on diversity failed to meet Apple’s muster, because they diverged too far from mainstream leftist social group-think. To them, diversity doesn’t mean thinking different; it means looking different.
