Evidently, climate researchers how have now attained the status of modern day soothsayers able to predict the future, while uttering dire warnings against those who fail to heed their prophecies or acquiesce to their solutions. On Monday, the journal Nature Climate Change published findings from climate researchers at the University of East Anglia (yes, that East Anglia) predicting that by 2050 an incredible 25% of “the world’s population will live in a perpetual state of drought and growing desertification if the Earth’s temperature rises by 2 degrees Celsius.”

The report “predicts that aridification would emerge over about 20-30 percent of the world’s land surface by the time the global mean temperature change reaches 2˚C.” Uh oh — either move or be doomed, right? Ah, not so fast. Those crack researchers have hit upon a solution that can save planet Earth from becoming Tatooine. The researchers explain that if the global warming can be limited to an increase of only 1.5˚C, then 25% of the earth’s population won’t be relegated to scraping out an existence as lowly moisture farmers.

Coincidently, the Paris Agreement just happens to have set as its target limiting global temperature increase to 1.5˚C, thus adverting the disaster prognosticated by the climate researchers. But Donald Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris deal and tweeted last week, “we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against.”

The reality is that no one truly knows what global temperatures will be in 30 years — let alone how certain government policies will change that forecast — and no one can control the earth’s climate in any case. To speak as if one does or can is the height of hubris. In reality the “problem” of climate change is actually leftist politics wrapped up in the guise of scientific research. The real message these climate alarmists are peddling is that adherence to global socialism and the inherent wealth redistribution baked into that system is the only solution that will “magically” mitigate the problem of global warming. And the “problem” is so imminent that there is no time to consider other solutions, if in fact other solutions exist, which they don’t. So get in line, or be labeled a science denier.
