The Patriot Post® · California: The Lawless State
A bill passed in California and signed by Democrat Gov. Jerry Brown last October became state law on Monday. The law effectively turns the entire state of California into a “sanctuary” haven for illegal aliens. It would seem that the California state government, long run by Democrats, has unequivocally declared that it values non-citizens and law breakers above U.S. citizens.
Acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Thomas Homan responded to the law, arguing, “California politicians have chosen to prioritize politics over public safety. Disturbingly, the legislation serves to codify a dangerous policy that deliberately obstructs our country’s immigration laws and shelters serious criminal alien offenders.”
The true irony here is that via this new law, California is announcing that it welcomes the lawless.
Getting into the spirit of California’s newly declared lawless status, pranksters attached fake “Official Sanctuary State” signs to the state’s official “Welcome to California” road signs. One prank sign read, “Felons, Illegals and MS13 Welcome! Democrats Need the Votes!” Another one affixed below the Malibu city sign read, “Official Sanctuary City ‘Cheap Nannies and Gardeners Make Malibu Great!’ (Boyle Heights Not So Much).” The California Department of Transportation responded to the pranks, stating, “For safety reasons, Caltrans does not permit any unauthorized signs in the state right of way. If we haven’t done so already, Caltrans crews will take steps to remove them.”
And yet California officials, like Gov. Brown, clearly see no safety issue with unauthorized illegal aliens entering and living in the state. (The families of Kate Steinle and numerous other victims would beg to differ.) No, in fact, not only will they take no steps to remove illegals, they will seek impede the federal government from doing its job enforcing the nation’s laws. But when it comes to fake road signs, those are dangerous and must be removed, lest they offend someone’s delicate sensibilities. Humor aside, the truth is, the prank signs are accurate. Democrats are out for cheap labor and votes, and nationally they’re setting up for a debate over “Dreamers.”
