If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Hillary Clinton it’s that she hasn’t learned anything. Throughout 2017, she blamed anyone and everyone but herself for her election loss to Donald Trump. Here are three notable examples: blame the Russians, blame misogyny, blame everyone else. And now in 2018, apparently she is not done.

Now she is doubling down on her arrogant “basket of deplorables” assessment from September 2016. “To just be grossly generalistic,” she said then, “you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it.”

This time, speaking to a foreign audience in Mumbai for an undisclosed fee, she drug millions of Americans through the mud again. (The Resurgent’s Marc Giller hilariously called her pity party “poutsourcing.”) For starters, she asserted, Democrats “do not do well with white men and we don’t do well with married white women.” That’s because women face “ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.” (In other words, white men and women are just too stupid to vote for Democrats.)

Clinton claims she would have won white women if it weren’t for then-FBI Director James Comey. “All of a sudden white women, who were going to vote for me and frankly standing up to the men in their lives and the men in their workplaces, were being told, ‘She’s going to jail. You don’t want to vote for her. It’s terrible, you can’t vote for that,’” she complained. “So it just stopped my momentum and it decreased my vote.”

She went on to trash Trump voters as a bunch of backwards-looking racists. “There’s all that red in the middle, where Trump won. Now, I win the coasts, I win Illinois, Minnesota, places like that. But what the map doesn’t show you is that I won the places that represent two-thirds of America’s gross domestic product. So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward, and his whole campaign — ‘Make America Great Again’ — was looking backwards. ‘You know, you didn’t like black people getting rights, you don’t like women, you know, getting jobs, you don’t want, you know, to see that [ethnic groups] succeeding more than you are.’”

Yes, if you did not vote for Clinton you are not “optimistic, diverse, dynamic and moving forward,” but you are a racist misogynist. In fact, it is her arrogant, mocking disdain for grassroots Americans which accounts for her defeat. It’s why Democrats have been losing for years – except when Republicans run candidates who are disconnected with the conservative grassroots base. Moreover, because she’s still the party’s standard-bearer, it’s why Democrats face an uphill battle in November.
