Days before Minnesota’s primary election, news came out alleging that current DNC Deputy Chairman Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) physically and verbally abused his former “long-term” girlfriend, Karen Monahan. The allegations were made through social media and came from Monahan’s son, who wrote that “my brother and I watched our mom come out of pure hell after getting out of her relationship with Keith Ellison.” Included in his post was a recount of an incident where Ellison “dragged my mama off the bed by her feet” while he screamed and cursed at her. Monahan’s son also claimed that video exists of the aforementioned bed incident.

Ellison was quick to deny the allegations, stating, “Karen and I were in a long-term relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being. This video does not exist because I never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.” However, Monahan confirmed her son’s description of the abuse and in an interview with Minnesota Public Radio presented more than 100 texts that included a mention of the bed-dragging incident. She also claimed that a video did exist but she declined to provide it.

The DNC offered the obligatory “we’re looking into it” statement, while the mainstream media has essentially ignored the story. Was this simply a politically motivated hit-job, or is there more to it? Even in this #MeToo era, unless more solid evidence to support Monahan’s allegations comes out, such as the release of the video in question, it’s unlikely that these accusations will have any significant impact, due to the fact that Ellison can check off the Left’s grievance intersectionality hierarchy of racial and religious minority.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Ellison easily won the Democrat primary for Minnesota attorney general and will face off against Republican Dough Wardlow in the November general election. Following his primary victory, Ellison spoke to his supporters briefly and addressed the abuse allegations: “We had a very unexpected event at the end of this campaign that happened. I want to assure you that it is not true and we are going to keep on fighting all the way.” One thing’s for certain, if similar allegations had been made against Donald Trump, the MSM would be having a field day covering it as the top story for weeks. Oh wait — they did.
