The Democrat Party has pursued a national strategy to make the midterms all about Donald Trump. (To be fair, Trump has happily obliged.) Democrats have identified Republican districts they believe they can flip and linked those GOP incumbents (or candidates for open seats) to the president in hopes of inspiring a strong anti-Trump turnout. Top Dem strategists know they can’t run against a booming economy, so they are hoping they can get around that by stirring anger against the president.

Such is the state of political affairs today, and we’ll know if this strategy pays off when the polls close tonight. But it’s worth looking into how the Democrats got to this place where all they have to offer is threats of impeachment, cries of racism, and the promise of endless investigations into who-knows-what that will bog down our government and squelch our economic growth.

The Democrats, in short, have an anger-management problem, and it is driven by rich white people.

For several years now rich progressive whites have solidified their power in the Democrat Party in deep-blue areas like New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago, forcing the party further to the ideological left. Driven by so-called white guilt and pet issues like the environment, these wealthy white leftists are the reasons why we are seeing an upsurge in the popularity of socialism.

A recent Politico article uses socialist poster child Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as an example.

The young political firebrand made national headlines earlier this year when she ousted longtime Democrat Congressman Joe Crowley in the primaries. Crowley was a 10-term incumbent and a mainstay in his Queens, New York district. He was unquestionably leftist, brought home the bacon for his constituents, became a reliable fundraiser for the Democrats, and he was the No. 4 House Democrat. But along came Ocasio-Cortez, who convinced voters that Crowley was a creature of Washington who didn’t represent the interests of the poor minorities in the district.

Ocasio-Cortez’s primary victory shocked Crowley, the district, and much of the country. Since New York City is overwhelmingly Democrat and election victories are usually decided in the primaries, Ocasio-Cortez is all but assured to go to Congress. Her victory fit squarely into the narrative of a progressive, diverse Democrat coalition. But it’s not as diverse as we are led to believe.

The precincts Ocasio-Cortez won were predominantly white, higher-educated, and wealthier than the overall district. Crowley performed best in precincts with a high percentage of blacks and Hispanics, including Ocasio-Cortez’s home turf.

This has been happening all over the country; Ocasio-Cortez is just the most well-known case. Rich, college-educated white progressives control the levers of power, and they are squeezing out establishment Democrats who have long had the support of lesser-educated poor minorities, despite the fact that they have conspired to keep them that way for generations.

The party’s new elite will not free minorities from the Democrat plantation, though. Instead, they will use them for cannon fodder in their attempt to seize Congress this year and the White House in 2020.

The Democrat Party power structure does not hold the same concerns as its large minority base. Minorities care about the economy and jobs, and they are more socially conservative than the Democrat leadership would have us believe. Yet that same leadership sees the environment and racial diversity as the big issues of the day. These are the hot-button issues that stir anger among the progressive power players who write the big checks and run for public office.

Diversity and race are issues that also keep minority voters in line. Democrats are experts at painting the Republican Party as one led by racist, rich, white men. Democrats have labeled Republicans as racist to keep minorities from leaving the party or entertaining the notion that the Republican Party just might be a better alternative than one that keeps them strung out on public assistance like a back-alley drug dealer.

This is what National Review’s David French refers to as negative polarization, “allegiance to your political party not out of love for its ideas but instead out of fear for the other side.” These minority voters are trapped in the Democrat Party. They can’t get ahead, but they don’t dare leave for fear of being exploited by racist, rich whites.

Well, the bad news for minorities is that they are already being exploited by racist, rich whites. The trillion dollars in spending on entitlements Democrats have delivered over the last 60-plus years has done nothing to improve the lives of the poor. Those who have escaped the cycle of poverty have done so with a helping hand and hard work, not through handouts and embracing victimhood.

It is the Democrat Party that is racist because its rich elite want minorities to believe they are powerless to improve their lives, that they are victims of unseen forces beyond their comprehension. There are few things more insulting to a person’s intelligence and their humanity than telling them they cannot help themselves and must be reliant on the government to guide their lives.

Republicans have a real opportunity to seize the moment and demonstrate to minorities that the GOP is the party that will represent them. A strong economy, a secure border (many black and Latino citizens strongly oppose illegal immigration), and low taxes do more to improve peoples’ lives than shaking a fist and accusing political opponents of racism ever will.

Trump is enjoying broader support among minorities than any Republican leader in years. Now is the moment to take advantage of that and smash the Democrat plantation once and for all.
