The ‘MAGA Bomber’ Hoaxer — Guilty

The devices were a hoax, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t still terrorism.

Six months ago (two weeks before the 2018 midterm) there was wall-to-wall headline saturation about the “MAGA Bomber.” But you may have missed the news about the perpetrator’s plea a few weeks ago, as it received little attention.

Last October, with all the Democrat Party and Leftmedia propagandist political guns firing relentless salvos against Donald Trump and his congressional Republicans, “bombs” started showing up in the mail of notable leftists and their media outlets.

At the time, I wrote that the devices appeared to be inert — fake bombs, a hoax. I noted, “If a bomb was designed for detonation upon opening, it would have a very different triggering mechanism — like those sent by leftist Theodore John Kaczynski, a.k.a. the ‘Unabomber,’ who actually killed people.”

I also wrote then, and want to emphasize now, “To be clear, whether or not these devices were intended to detonate or disrupt, this is, by definition, an act of terrorism.”

As it was quickly discovered, this hoax was perpetrated by a bankrupt, homeless sociopath with a long criminal history, who was living in a van plastered with pro-Trump and anti-Democrat stickers. He was arrested within days of the first devices being discovered, and at a press conference, FBI Director Chris Wray reported that the devices contained “energetic material that can become combustible when subjected to heat or friction” — actually, as we know now, scrapings from common fireworks sparklers. Wray declared these were not “not hoax devices.”

However, based on all the evidence I have seen (which is not all the evidence), and moreover the perspective of knowledgeable sources with whom I have spoken, these devices were obviously constructed by an amateur hoaxer. The perp did not intend for the devices to detonate. They were clearly not designed nor did they have the ability to detonate, and the only way they would have caught fire is if the recipient had put a match to the material — just as a match is used to light a sparkler.

A week after the Wray’s comments, I confirmed that, within 24 hours of the packages being received, federal investigators briefed key members of Congress and indicated the “bombs” were inert. But it was curious that those federal officials did not advise the public that the bombs were a hoax, though perhaps they did not want to say that in the event that there were real devices that had not yet been received.

Of course, this incident provided a pre-election opening for the leftist collective chorus to claim Trump was responsible for this hate crime, when in fact, it is Democrats whose entire rhetorical platform is based on fear, anger, and hate. Despite the perpetrator being labeled the “MAGA Bomber,” the irony is that it’s Democrats who are bombing efforts to make America great again!

Late last month, the hoax perp pled guilty to charges related to sending the packages by mail, telling the U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff, “I knew these actions were wrong. I’m extremely sorry.” Asked by the judge, “Did you intend they would explode?” the perp responded, “No, sir. … The devices would have never exploded or worked. The fireworks were sparkler type.”

According to Geoffrey Berman, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, “For five days in October 2018, Cesar Sayoc rained terror across the country, sending high-ranking officials and former elected leaders explosive packages through the mail.” Coincidentally, that is the same District that is still pursuing Trump, alleging campaign-finance violations — the Democrats’ last fodder for impeachment.

However, from all information I have been able to review, the packages contained hoax devices sent by a lunatic. Again, let me reiterate that sending these packages, regardless of the fact they were never designed, intended, or capable of detonation and harm still constitutes an act of terrorism. But the fact that the FBI never cleaned up Wray’s claims about these devices is, to say the least, unprofessional.

To put this into perspective, consider the case of the deranged Bernie Sanders supporter, an Obama “99%"er from Illinois, who attempted the mass murder of congressional Republicans in June 2017. Had he used blanks, that hoax would have deserved universal condemnation and criminal charges, but within 24 hours, the story would have been out of the Demo-MSM headlines — because the perp was a leftist. However, he used live ammunition and intended to kill many Republicans that day — and would have succeeded if there had not been good guys with guns who stopped his assault.

Notably, that assailant almost killed then-House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA). Ironically, just prior to the bomb hoax incidents last October, Scalise issued a warning about uncivil rhetoric, saying, "In America, we win battles at the ballot box, not through mob rule or intimidation. While it’s clear many Democrats refuse to accept the election of President Trump, if they want change, they need to convince people with their ideas and actually win elections, rather than call for violent resistance, harassment, and mob rule.”
