Have Democrats forgotten that they were elected to represent Americans? Senator and presidential candidate Cory Booker (D-NJ) made an obvious attempt to grab some media attention when he ventured into Mexico in order to escort five migrant women seeking asylum back across the American border. Booker’s stunt was a clear effort to one-up his fellow “Spanish speaker” and presidential contender Beto O'Rourke, who had recently gone into Mexico to meet with migrants on the asylum waiting list. At this rate, the next Democrat debate could take place at the front of a migrant caravan.

Speaking of O'Rourke, his replacement in the district he represented from 2013 to 2019, Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX), has had her staff working to “exploit a loophole” in the U.S. asylum process. According to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials, Escobar’s staff has visited upwards of 6,000 migrants who were returned to Mexico to await their asylum claims. CBP officials say that Escobar’s staff has even instructed migrants to insist that they don’t speak Spanish in order to avoid being returned to Mexico.

Not all border efforts are equal, however. The Washington Free Beacon reports, “All seven Democrats in the Senate running for president were absent Wednesday for a vote to send $4.6 billion in emergency humanitarian relief to the southern border to help thousands of migrant families and unaccompanied children.” Evidently, voting on a bipartisan bill aimed at alleviating the pain of the border crisis didn’t provide the self-promoting political theater these Dems are after.

Considering the Democrats’ support of sanctuary cities, free health care for illegal aliens, and decriminalization of illegal border crossings, how can they claim that they are not advocating for open borders? In sum, the Democrat presidential candidates’ platform consists of basically three things: hatred of President Donald Trump, “free” stuff, and open borders. That’s particularly ironic, notes Mark Alexander: “Democrats were once the advocates of blue-collar workers, but they now support the greatest threat to labor and wage growth — the influx of millions of illegal aliens competing for those jobs and willing to take lower wages.”
