The Patriot Post® · AOC Hits Facebook for Failing to Censor Conservatives

It’s no secret that the increasingly far-Left Democrat Party has no love for freedom of speech. In fact, leftists seem to be going out of their way to attack Americans’ First Amendment rights. Case in point: Wednesday’s House Financial Services Committee hearing featured Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who appeared ostensibly to answer questions regarding his proposed cryptocurrency known as Libra. However, several of the committee’s Democrats appeared to have assumed that the purpose of the hearing was to attack free speech.

Of all committee members, the prize for most irrational questioning went to the socialist from New York, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In an effort to paint Zuckerberg into a corner over his recent decision to not censor some political ads on Facebook, AOC asked if the social-media giant would allow her to run political ads falsely claiming that Republicans had voted for her Green New Deal. “I mean, if you’re not fact-checking political advertisements,” she groused, “I’m just trying to understand the bounds here. What’s fair game?”

Zuckerberg responded that he didn’t know the answer, though he did concede that yes, she probably could. AOC then pressed, “Do you see a potential problem here with a complete lack of fact-checking on political advertisements?” Zuckerberg pushed back, “Well, Congresswoman, I think lying is bad, and I think if you were to run an ad that had a lie in it, that would be bad. That’s different from it being … in our position, the right thing to do to prevent your constituents or people in an election from seeing that you had lied.”

What Democrats like AOC and company are really after is the censoring of any ideas with which they disagree. These leftists, unlike the liberals of old, have no desire to preserve and protect the rights of every American — whether they be a politician, a business owner, or a regular Joe — to publicly voice their thoughts and beliefs. Rather, leftists now demand that all Americans be forced to adhere to their own twisted worldview.

Sadly, a majority of Millennials seem to agree with AOC that the government should regulate “hate speech.” According to a recent poll conducted by Campaign for Free Speech, “51% of Americans think the First Amendment is outdated and should be rewritten,” and nearly 60% of Millennials believe that the First Amendment “goes too far in allowing hate speech in modern America.” This may explain why a socialist like AOC got elected in the first place.
