The Patriot Post® · Senate Dems Offer Socialist Recipe to Solve Unemployment

Democrat senators are supporting a proposed spending bill presented by Kamala Harris (CA), Bernie Sanders (VT), and Ed Markey (CT) that would give $2,000 a month to American households earning less than $120,000 annually, with the program running through to the end of the China Virus pandemic, whenever that may be.

“Congress has a responsibility to make sure that every working-class household in America receives a $2,000 emergency payment a month for each family member,” Sanders asserted. Harris claimed that Congress hasn’t done “nearly enough to meet the needs of this historic crisis.” Markey further claimed that this bill was “the most direct and efficient mechanism for delivering economic relief to those most vulnerable.”

When it comes to this massive expansion in government spending, the most obvious question is this: Where will all that money will come from? With at least 33 million Americans now finding themselves in the unemployment line, that’s a massive amount of lost tax revenue on top of the trillions in new debt the government has already accumulated in recent weeks. Essentially, what these Democrats are offering is a recipe for socialist-style “universal income,” and it would bankrupt the nation.

Senate Republicans were quick to pull back on the Democrats’ runaway spending train. “We just added another [few trillion dollars] to the national debt,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell observed back in April. “Let’s see how things are working.” Getting the economy running again and people back to work as soon as possible is the better solution to tackling the growing unemployment crisis, not disincentivizing work by paying people to sit at home.
