The Patriot Post® · Leftist Groups Demand Facebook Censor Speech

A cabal of leftist “civil rights” groups came together recently to demand that Facebook enact their latest censorship campaign, dubiously dubbed #StopHateforProfit. “Today, we are asking all businesses to stand in solidarity with our most deeply held American values of freedom, equality and justice and not advertise on Facebook’s services in July,” reads a full-page ad in the Los Angeles Times. “Let’s send Facebook a powerful message: Your profits will never be worth promoting hate, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and violence.”

The group is made up of the usual leftist thought police, including the Anti-Defamation League, the NAACP, and Free Press. They allege that Facebook amplifies white nationalism while not doing anything to stop “blatant voter suppression” (as if the protection of voting rights was Facebook’s job).

Using the tired old trope that Facebook is enabling the spread of “hate,” Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt asserts, “We have long seen how Facebook has allowed some of the worst elements of society into our homes and lives. When this hate spreads online it causes tremendous harm and also becomes permissible offline.” News flash, Greenblatt: The First Amendment grants people the right to hate, which is not necessarily a bad thing given that leftists have unilaterally set themselves up as the arbiters of what is and isn’t “hate.”

Truthfully, the spreading of “hatred” online is not the actual motivation behind this group’s boycott campaign; instead, it has everything to do with politics, as NAACP chief Derrick Johnson makes quite clear. “We’ve had multiple conversations with [Facebook] to create some safeguards,” he laments. “Now we’re approaching four years later, another election cycle. All evidence suggests that the same thing will happen this year and that should not be acceptable by anyone.” In other words, that President Donald Trump was free to advertise and express his political opinions on Facebook is the problem.

Of course, these censors aren’t really interested in stopping “misinformation” or the spreading of “hate” online. What they want to stop is the spread of information that challenges and contradicts their leftist worldview — the conservative political ideology that they utterly hate.
