Above the Fold

  • “President Trump commuted the prison sentence of longtime friend Roger Stone on Friday night, days before Stone was to report to federal prison to serve a sentence for lying to Congress and obstruction of justice,” The Washington Times reports. The Wall Street Journal writes, “Mr. Stone is no martyr. He is by his own description a political performance artist, and he finally ran into prosecutors who weren’t amused. There are legitimate questions about the anti-Trump bias of the jury forewoman, but the full jury found Mr. Stone lied to investigators and tried to bully witnesses.” At the same time, National Review’s Andrew C. McCarthy reminds us, “One-time defenders of unsavory Clinton and Obama pardons are outraged by the president’s commutation of his old associate’s 40-month sentence.” McCarthy has many examples to prove his point about Democrat hypocrisy. Our advice to Mr. Trump? Pardon Michael Flynn — a man who genuinely deserves it.

  • According to The Hill: “President Trump said Friday he intends to sign an executive order on immigration within the next month that he said will include a ‘road to citizenship’ for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In an interview with Telemundo anchor José Díaz-Balart, Trump blamed Democrats from walking away from a deal on DACA and said the Supreme Court’s decision last month blocking his administration’s plan to end the Obama-era program gave him ‘tremendous power.’” Trump’s incoming EO is likely timed to counter Joe Biden’s radical plan for universal citizenship released last week.
