A melee broke out Wednesday morning on the Brooklyn Bridge as a group of “protesters” attacked New York City police officers as they were arresting a counter-demonstrator to a “unity” march. The unprovoked attack resulted in several officers being bloodied and at least one sent to the hospital. “The officers sustained serious injuries,” stated the NYPD. “This is not peaceful protest. This will not be tolerated.” It’s just the latest in a string of recent attacks targeting law enforcement across the country, motivated in large part by the Left’s “defund the (racist) police” movement.

Exacerbating the situation has been the response by Democrat mayors of these major cities, who not only excuse the actions of rioters but even act to further the fallacious Black Lives Matter narrative that demonizes police. For example, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio disbanded NYPD’s plainclothes anti-crime unit and signed new laws that make it harder for officers to effectively and safely do their jobs — a fact he even acknowledged. However, de Blasio ridiculously asserted that the new laws were needed to make people safe.

Well, the citizens of New York City are anything but safer, as the rate of violent crime continues spiking. In fact, some minority community leaders in New York are calling for an end to protesting law enforcement. The New York Post reports, “Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has publicly criticized the decision to disband the NYPD’s plainclothes anti-crime unit — 600-plus officers reassigned to uniformed patrol, where the gun-toting bad guys can see them coming. Other black community leaders have now joined Adams’ call to reinstate the unit (with new safeguards) to help fight the escalating violence.”

Seeing the growing violence across many of America’s largest cities, President Donald Trump yesterday announced forthcoming plans to send in federal law enforcement to help these Democrat-run “war-zones.” As the president put it, “The left-wing group of people that are running our cities are not doing the job that they’re supposed to be doing.”

Trump later added, “It’s something … the American people want to see. They’ve been run very poorly, these cities — whether it’s Seattle, where we were getting ready to go in … [or] Minneapolis, where we had the National Guard go in. And as soon as they did, we straightened that mess out. But we have other cities that are out of control. They’re like war zones.”

Also on Wednesday, in a message highlighting Trump’s commitment to upholding law and order, the White House reported that the FBI had recently arrested and charged several MS-13 criminals: “In New York and Nevada, 21 MS-13 members and leaders have been indicted on charges including murder, kidnapping, and drug trafficking.”

Finally, in a significant hit to Joe Biden, the National Association of Police Organizations, which had previously endorsed Obama/Biden twice, announced its endorsement of Trump for reelection. The NAPO, which represents over 1,000 police associations and 241,000 sworn officers nationwide, praised Trump for his “steadfast and very public support” for law enforcement. The endorsement letter, signed by NAPO President Michael McHale, acknowledged the importance of having the president’s support “during this time of unfair and inaccurate opprobrium being directed at our members by so many.”

According to McHale: “We particularly value your directing the Attorney General to aggressively prosecute those who attack our officers,” he continued, adding other positive actions such as “your signing into law the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act; your advocacy and signing into law the legislation which permanently authorized funds to support 9/11 first responders and their families; your revitalization of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program to help reduce violent crime; and your unflagging recognition that America’s law enforcement officers, just like any other citizens, have Constitutional rights, too.”

This is a significant blow to the former vice president given the fact that back in both 2008 and 2012, the NAPO endorsed Barack Obama and Biden. In 2016, the NAPO did not endorse a candidate. Clearly, America’s police have no confidence that Biden would have their backs — other than to stab them.
