Recently it came to light that Hunter Biden had been hit with a $450,000 lien for unpaid taxes only to have the lien paid off six days later. The trouble is that Joe Biden’s younger son currently has no discernible income, so how the lien was paid off so quickly is a mystery. The DC Office of the Chief Financial Officer simply confirmed that the “tax issue was resolved” without elaborating on who may have paid it.

The question is significant since just last year, in a child-support suit brought against him by the mother of his two-year-old child, he claimed, “I attest that I am unemployed and have had no monthly income since May 2019. I currently have significant debts (in part as a result of obligations arising from my divorce which was final in April 2017).” The problem with Biden’s “I’m broke” claim is that he was never a pauper. As The Washington Free Beacon reports, at the time of the lawsuit, “He was living in a $12,000-per-month Hollywood Hills rental home and spotted driving a $129,000 Porsche Panamera in Beverly Hills. After a judge ordered Biden to turn over his financial records and travel to Arkansas for a deposition, the former lobbyist agreed to settle the case with [Lunden Alexis] Roberts … the mother of Hunter Biden’s two-year-old child.”

Tax expert Harvey Bezozi says the process to resolve a tax lien normally “drags on,” adding, “Six days had to be some kind of expeditious kind of process for this.”

Given Hunter Biden’s suspect history of lucrative positions with foreign companies while his father was the vice president, this latest fixing of a tax lien smacks of a politically expedient cleanup operation. The last thing Joe Biden needs is more bad press surrounding his younger son.

The Free Beacon also pointed out that tax problems are not a new issue for members of the Biden family: “James Biden [brother of Joe] has had at least five tax liens filed against him between 1995 and 2015, including one for $589,095 filed in 2015 and released one year later. Frank Biden, another brother of the presidential candidate, has had at least three liens for unpaid income taxes. He said in 2011 that a $32,500 lien in Kentucky stemmed from his struggle with alcohol addiction and was being paid off through a monthly plan, according to the Broward Palm Beach New Times. Joe Biden’s sister Valerie and her husband John Owens have faced at least five tax liens, including one for $229,749 in 1990.”

Liens aren’t the only issue, either. Joe and Jill Biden were careful to entirely avoid the payroll tax on millions in earnings on book royalties and speaking fees. Yet Joe hypocritically blasted Donald Trump’s payroll tax suspension, calling it the “first shot in a new, reckless war on Social Security.” He lectured, “Our seniors and millions of Americans with disabilities are under enough stress without Trump putting their hard-earned Social Security benefits in doubt.”

Maybe if Joe, Jill, James, Frank, Valerie, and Hunter paid their taxes, seniors might not be under quite so much stress.
