The first thing we noticed was how tired, pallid, and old he looked. Yeah, the voice was still that of Bill Clinton, but it was weak, quiet, and far from vital — which makes sense, because Bill Clinton hasn’t been in the Oval Office in nearly 20 years.

This was our 42nd president speaking about the man he hopes will be our 46th. And that’s the most disturbing part of it: The pale and frail 74-year-old Bill Clinton of today — the man who was first sworn into office on January 20, 1993 — is still three years younger than the man he’s endorsing. And yet the Democrats are insisting that Joe Biden is ready to take on the most demanding job in the world.

We’re just 75 days away from the election, and one has to wonder: Is it really possible that a majority of Americans will vote for this guy?

Clinton’s speech didn’t stand out, perhaps because he wasn’t energized by a live audience. And, as columnist John Podhoretz pointed out, one part of his attack on Donald Trump seemed strong “until you thought about it for 10 seconds.” Podhoretz explained, “He said the Oval Office should be a command center, but that Trump had turned it into storm center — which may be true of Trump, but it was another kind of disgraceful center when Clinton was president, and he reminded people of that by bringing up the subject.”

It didn’t help, either, that Clinton’s speech coincided perfectly with the release of some new pictures in which he’s receiving a massage from one of serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s accusers. So much for Bubba’s endorsement.

Another old war horse — make that a show horse — also weighed in on behalf of Joe Biden: failed Secretary of State John Kerry. Sixteen years ago, he ran for president as a Botox-for-men pioneer, but George W. Bush, crow’s feet and all, sent him packing. Kerry, incidentally, is also younger than Joe Biden.

“Boy, was this an evening about the past, and not exactly the most glorious past either,” said Podhoretz. “John Kerry, the 2004 presidential loser, was brought on to attack Donald Trump on foreign policy and hilariously suggested he and the Obama administration had done a great job in the Middle East when he was secretary of state.”

Kerry’s line of attack was without question the most absurd of all. “[Trump] breaks up with our allies and writes love letters to dictators,” he said. This is rich, of course, given that the Obama-Biden-Kerry foreign policy consisted largely of drawing fake red lines in the Syrian sand and secretly sending pallets of American cash to Iranian mullahs in exchange for laughably worthless nuclear non-proliferation promises. Trump is the one actually coming through for our allies in the region.

Former bartender Sandy Cortez also had a speaking slot on Day Two, but it was pre-recorded. And only 90 seconds long. Nonetheless, she gamely stuffed 10 pounds of fertilizer into her five-pound sack. As columnist Brittany Bernstein noted, AOC began with a tribute to a “mass people’s movement working to establish 21st-century social, economic, and human rights, including guaranteed healthcare, higher education, living wages, and labor rights for all people in the United States.”

She must’ve felt like that fast-talking FedEx guy from the early ‘80s, though, as she praised her fellow travelers for “striving to recognize and repair the wounds of racial injustice, colonization, misogyny, and homophobia,” and exhorted them to “propose and build re-imagined systems of immigration and foreign policy that turn away from the violence and xenophobia of our past.”

Whew. Only two more nights to go.
