The Republican National Convention ended last evening with President Donald Trump addressing a crowd of supporters on the White House lawn. His speech served as a powerful conclusion to a successful convention. However, not to be missed were many others who offered moving stories that Republicans hope will inspire people to vote for America by voting for Trump in November. Here are some of the most memorable highlights of those speeches.

Alice Johnson, a former convict who was serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense until Trump commuted her sentence in 2018, praised the president for his efforts on criminal justice reform via the First Step Act. “I was once told that the only way I would ever be reunited with my family would be as a corpse,” she related, “but by the grace of God and the compassion of President Donald John Trump, I stand before you tonight … and I assure you, I’m not a ghost. I am alive, I am well, and most importantly, I am free.”

Ivanka Trump, the president’s oldest daughter and senior adviser, introduced her father, emphasizing that his reason for running for president four years ago was his desire and commitment to give a voice to the hard-working forgotten Americans. That remains the same today. However, her most memorable statement came near the end of her speech, when, after noting all the hatred her father has received from the Washington political class, she said, “Our president refuses to surrender his beliefs to score points with the political elite. … If these problems were easy to solve, previous presidents would have done so. But you don’t achieve different results by doing things the same way. Washington has not changed Donald Trump. Donald Trump has changed Washington.”

One of the most moving speeches of the evening was delivered by Ann Dorn, the widow of retired St. Louis Police Captain David Dorn, who was murdered by rioters as he attempted to defend his friend’s pawn shop from being looted. “Violence and destruction are not legitimate forms of protest. They do not safeguard black lives. They destroy them,” she said. “President Trump understands this and has offered federal help to restore order in our communities. In a time when police departments are short on resources and manpower, we need that help. We should accept that help. We must heal before we can effect change, but we cannot heal amid devastation and chaos. President Trump knows we need more Davids in our communities, not fewer. We need to come together in peace and remember that every life is precious.”

Again, love of country was the theme of the evening, and it was clear which candidate upholds this ideal.
