Earlier this month, The Atlantic falsely claimed President Donald Trump didn’t want to attend a 2018 ceremony at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery outside of Paris because the rain would mess up his hair. The story further alleged that Trump didn’t want to honor America’s war dead, instead calling them “losers” and “suckers” for getting killed in battle.
The revelations seemed appalling on the surface, but it wasn’t a surprise to discover that all four sources were anonymous. Of course they’re anonymous. That’s how the Leftmedia rolls. Over the last three and a half years, we’ve heard from one anonymous source after another, all of them so afraid of Trump and his “MAGA minions” that they can’t come out in public.
But there were plenty of people “in the know” who weren’t afraid to go on the record and deny the baseless charges, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton, who’s not exactly a fan of his former boss.
For his part, Joe Biden has taken advantage of the Atlantic’s hit piece to create the false impression that he’s a greater supporter of the military than Trump.
Remember, this is the same Joe Biden that The Washington Post criticized for lying about a four-star general asking him to travel to Afghanistan to pin a medal on a war hero. And while we’ve all heard about Trump’s Vietnam draft deferments, we hear a lot less about Biden’s five deferments and his eventual disqualification due to asthma he had as a teenager — even though he somehow survived working as a lifeguard and playing football in high school and college.
In fact, Biden’s record with the military during his nearly 50 years in Washington tells a completely different story than the one he’s spreading in his brief, scripted campaign appearances.
For starters, he’s never had a good relationship with military brass. Biden doesn’t trust them, and he doesn’t particularly like them. Maybe this explains why Barack Obama and his trusty sidekick tried to micromanage the military, much to the dismay of Pentagon officials and military commanders.
Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates was particularly critical of Obama and Biden in the way they injected politics into decision-making without consulting their military leaders. Indeed, retired Army Major General Robert Scales claimed that these same leaders were embarrassed over the “amateurism” of the administration.
As for the rank and file, more than half of them disapproved of the Obama-Biden era in a Military Times poll. In particular, they overwhelmingly opposed troop reductions and their impact on America’s ability to face emerging threats.
Nonetheless, more than 200 retired generals and admirals officially declared their support for Joe Biden for president this week.
But while many of them claim political ideology should be kept out of military affairs, it doesn’t take long to discover that the collective endorsement is more about Biden’s views on climate change, trade with China, and North Korea’s nuclear program (which Trump has impeded) than anything he’s done for the military.
Moreover, the letter repeats the same leftist tropes often used to accuse President Trump of hurting America’s standing, disrespecting the office he holds, and so on.
Clearly, the letter endorsing Biden was a political response to last week’s letter penned by 235 former generals and admirals endorsing President Trump.
The lefties at the Los Angeles Times just couldn’t take it, though, so they quickly published an op-ed condemning the pro-Trump letter as “disgraceful” and running counter to “military norms.”
Not surprisingly, the Times didn’t say boo about the letter of endorsement for Biden. Nor did anyone else in the mainstream media — well, beyond celebrating it.
Like Hillary Clinton’s phony claim that she braved sniper fire in Bosnia in 1996, Biden’s real record on the military is so unremarkable that he feels compelled to make up war stories and disparage a sitting president.
But that’s just Joe being Joe.
