The Patriot Post® · Michelle Obama Cries Racism. Again.
Michelle Obama, our nation’s First Lady of Incessant Grievance, is at it again. In a new video that she manfully calls her “closing argument” for Joe Biden, Obama takes President Donald Trump to task for trying to make us think that the urban riots and the Black Lives Matter protests of the past few months have been “an overwhelmingly peaceful movement for racial solidarity.”
We suppose this is the sort of overwhelming peacefulness and racial solidarity Michelle was talking about — a peacefulness and solidarity that was interrupted only by the selfishness of that elderly drink-hoarding white couple and that grumpy McDonald’s manager who didn’t appreciate the sweet sounds of a bullhorn in his ear.
In addition to reminding us of the devastating tranquility of this summer’s Black Lives Matter riots, The Most Privileged Woman in America trotted out all the usual canards: Trump has “devoted his life” to enriching himself and his family and his rich friends, and he’s failing us “regular folks” on issues like “creating blue-collar jobs, making healthcare more affordable, protecting the environment, [and] keeping our families safe from gun violence, let alone the coronavirus.”
It’s hard to know where to begin unpacking this laundry list, but we could start by noting that Trump isn’t even taking a presidential salary. And we could finish by noting that “gun violence” is really “people violence,” and it’s happening almost exclusively between and among black Americans living in urban centers that have been controlled for decades by Democrats.
“Right now,” Obama railed, “the president and his allies are trying to tap into that frustration and distract from his breathtaking failures by giving folks someone to blame other than them. They’re stoking fears about black and brown Americans, lying about how minorities will destroy the suburbs, whipping up violence and intimidation — and they’re pinning it all on what’s been an overwhelmingly peaceful movement for racial solidarity.”
As Dinesh D'Souza noted, Obama conveniently camouflaged an important third category of BLM protests that exist somewhere between the peaceful ones and the murderous ones: “The protests of intimidation, of knocking down statues, of defacing property, of accosting people in front of their homes, of disrupting restaurants, of going to birthday parties and overturning the tables, of stopping traffic and pulling people out of their cars.” He adds, “So there’s a pattern here … of a culture of intimidation, and this is the norm at the protests, not some outlying exception.”
In the end, we can judge for ourselves whether Michelle Obama is telling the truth about the peacefulness of the riots and the racism of President Trump. But who are we gonna believe — an incessant stoker of grievance and racial animus, or our lyin’ eyes?
