Disney Sure Was Racist, Says Disney

New disclaimers are running in front of some of its classic movies.

Disney is at it again. “Dumbo” (1941), “Peter Pan” (1953), “Swiss Family Robinson” (1960), and “The Aristocats” (1970) have now been treated to disclaimers that cannot be skipped before viewing the movies on Disney’s streaming service. The warning tells viewers that what they’re about to watch contains “negative depictions” or “mistreatment of people or cultures.” The mea culpa explains, “These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together.”

It’s not Disney’s first venture into this kind of wokescolding.

We’re not here to defend Disney’s body of work, or the cultural stereotypes that were prevalent in all films back in those days. But we will note that historical arrogance is rampant on the “woke” Left. Social justice warriors always think they are superior to people of history, even if it’s themselves from just a few years ago. (See: Biden, Joe.) “Progressive,” “right side of history” and all that. Yet we suspect if you asked our ancestors whether there ought to be same-sex couples kissing in Disney movies, they might put up a content warning of their own.

In other words, Disney is hardly a paragon of virtue, so spare us the self-righteous indignation now.

Lest anyone forget, this is the company that proudly hosts “Gay Days” at Disney World. That was immoral to just about everyone only a few years ago. Now it’s “immoral” to still think so.

Disney was just slammed by a black actor for the way the new “Star Wars” trilogy ruined his character and that of another minority, putting them in little more than “diversity box-checking” roles.

And Disney is the same company that just filmed “Mulan” in the same district as a concentration camp and then thanked the very Chinese communists committing genocide there.

Maybe there should be a disclaimer of a different sort in front of all of Disney’s products.
