The Patriot Post® · Downey Jr. Does Some 'Avenging' for Pal Pratt
“If we can’t protect the earth, you can be damned sure we’ll avenge it.” So said Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark/Iron Man in the first “Avengers” movie in 2012. That most famous of lines birthed the name of the super hero team. Well, this week, one of Downey Jr’s fellow “Avengers” stars, Chris Pratt, needed some avenging.
Pratt, who plays Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers” movies, has pulled off the remarkable achievement of being both a Christian and a generally respected actor in Hollywood. But he was assailed on social media for skipping a Joe Biden fundraiser, though it was attended by several of his “Avengers” costars. According to USA Today, “'Voters Assemble!,’ on Tuesday, featured ‘Avengers’ cast members [Chris] Evans, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana for a night of Q&A and trivia with vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris.”
Having already been hammered for wearing a Gadsden flag T-shirt, Pratt was not going to get away with not supporting Biden. The Twitter mob lashed out, slandering him as a pro-Trump, anti-homosexual, Christian bigot and worse.
Ruffalo, who’s about as politically obnoxious as it gets, even defended Pratt, noting that he’s “just not overtly political as a rule” and encouraging people to “look at how he lives his life.” But it was Downey Jr., also not on the fundraiser list, who gave the most thorough smackdown to the intolerant leftists targeting Pratt:
What a world… The “sinless” are casting stones at my #brother, Chris Pratt… A real #Christian who lives by #principle, has never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude… AND he just married into a family that makes space for civil discourse and (just plain fact) INSISTS on service as the highest value.
If you take issue with Chris,,, I’ve got a novel idea.
Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of #character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness… @prattprattpratt I #gotyerbackbackback.
Whether any of these stars perfectly reflects conservative values or orthodox Christian theology is entirely beside the point. This is America, and if people can’t agree to disagree, then we have lost the Liberty many of us fight for. We’re glad to see Pratt’s costars defend him even if they disagree politically, but they might take a moment themselves and reflect on the cancel culture they are raising money to support.
